However, with the wonders of these smart objects, there comes a risk. The main risk at the moment is privacy, these devices are able to collate personal information from their users and transfer that into the businesses database. Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home have been known to listen in on user' conversations.
No longer can this question relate to an individual’s IQ, but rather it now relates to technological devices.
These smart devices fall into the concept of 'Internet of Things' (IoT). As Steve Ranger states, IoT refers to the physical devices everywhere that are now connected to the internet, all collecting and sharing data. Basically, anything can be turned into an IoT device once it is connected to the internet to be controlled or to communicate information.
In today’s society, devices such as Ring’s smart doorbell allows you to see whose at your door via an app, Samsung’s smart fridge has built in cameras linked to your phone and even Oral B’s smart toothbrush connects to an app on your phone, all of these are considered an IoT device. We live in a world where anything can be ‘smart’.
Apple has been able to produce many products that fall into the IoT category, from their smart watches and Airpods to their smart pencils, they have transformed simple products into a tech savvy device.
However, with the wonders of these smart objects, there comes a risk. The main risk at the moment is privacy, these devices are able to collate personal information from their users and transfer that into the businesses database. Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home have been known to listen in on user's conversations.

However, as Dr. John Barrett says it may come to a point where privacy is meaningless. The convenience these smart devices provide may outweigh people’s obsession over their privacy and may even get to a point where privacy is no longer a thing, everyone’s information is out in the world and people don’t care about it as much.
As a business operating in the 21st century, IoT is a major component that needs to be considered. It is becoming a huge part of everyday life with their being more smart devices than people. Businesses need to adapt and embrace smart devices and use them to their advantage. These devices have the ability to collect valuable data that businesses can use to better position themselves in the market.
Internet of things is taking over the world, businesses need to act fast in order to keep up with the needs of society. So, I wonder, will we soon be a completely smart world? And, will privacy be irrelevant?
